The U10 Youth Sprint Program is designed for athletes aged 8–9 (as of January 1, 2026) and runs throughout the summer months. Rooted in Canoe Kayak Canada’s FUNdamentals and Foundations stages of Long-Term Athlete Development, this program introduces young paddlers to sprint canoe and kayak in a way that prioritizes fun, movement, confidence, and skill development.
Athletes learn essential water safety, basic paddling technique, and physical literacy through a mix of games, skill-based activities, and on-water sessions. Time spent outdoors on the water encourages an active lifestyle, teamwork, and a positive connection to sport while developing fundamental movement skills that transfer well beyond paddling.
Our certified and experienced coaches create a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment where every athlete can explore the sport at their own pace. Sessions emphasize technical fundamentals, overall athleticism, and enjoyment, helping young paddlers build confidence and curiosity while developing a strong foundation for future participation. Athletes will have opportunities to paddle both single and crew boats, focusing on technique, aerobic fitness, and introductory speed development - all within a fun, inclusive, and athlete-centred setting.

The U12 Youth Sprint Program is designed for athletes aged 10–11 (as of January 1, 2026) and runs throughout the summer season. Aligned with Canoe Kayak Canada’s FUNdamentals, Foundations, and Learning to Train stages of Long-Term Athlete Development, this program supports young paddlers as they progress from introductory skills toward more intermediate sprint canoe and kayak techniques.
Athletes continue to build strong foundations in water safety, physical literacy, and teamwork, while being introduced to race preparation and competition in a fun, age-appropriate way. Participants will have opportunities to take part in local and provincial regattas, helping them learn how to train, race, and reflect in a supportive environment. Time spent outdoors on the water encourages an active lifestyle, confidence, and a growing sense of ownership in their sport.
Led by our certified and experienced coaches, training sessions emphasize technical development, aerobic conditioning, and introductory speed work in both single and crew boats. Small-group coaching allows for individualized feedback while still fostering team connection and shared learning. The U12 program strikes a balance between fun and focus, helping athletes develop skills, confidence, and a love for sport - whether they continue recreationally or choose to pursue competitive paddling in future years.

The Carleton Place Canoe Club’s Introduction to Sprint Program is a dynamic two-week camp designed for youth aged 8–13 (as of January 1, 2026). Ideal for newcomers, this program offers an engaging introduction to sprint canoe and kayak without the commitment of a full summer program. Participants work with our certified and experienced coaches to build foundational paddling skills, learn about sprint racing, and discover the excitement of paddling in a fun, outdoor, and supportive environment.
Athletes train daily in both single and crew boats, with sessions focused on water safety, technique development, physical literacy, fitness, core strength, and introductory speed work. Time on the water is balanced with games and team-based activities, helping athletes stay active outdoors while developing confidence, coordination, and a love for sport.
For paddlers interested in continuing their experience, there is an optional third-week extension, giving athletes the opportunity to participate in a local regatta on July 18 in Carleton Place. This event provides a fun, welcoming, and low-pressure introduction to racing, allowing athletes to experience competition in a positive and encouraging setting. Those eager to continue beyond the camp can seamlessly transition into the full Youth Sprint Program by paying the fee difference.
Program highlights include National Coach Certification Program–certified staff, a strong emphasis on water safety, and a focus on teamwork, skill development, and enjoyment.
Join us for an unforgettable introduction to sprint paddling - where learning, fun, and outdoor adventure come together on the water!
