The Dragon Boat Competition Development Program is designed for paddlers who are interested in improving race performance through focused technical training and team-based racing strategy. This program emphasizes efficient stroke mechanics, crew timing, and tactical execution to prepare athletes for competitive racing environments.​

Practices are led by experienced coaches and are structured to balance high-quality training intensity with targeted learning opportunities that support long-term skill development. The primary competitive focus is preparation for two annual festivals - the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival in June and the Carleton Place Dragon Boat Festival in September - with additional racing opportunities available if there is sufficient team interest.

• Dates: May 11th - September 12th, 2026 (Carleton Place Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, September 12th, 2026). 

• Cost: $280 (+ optional festival entry fees)

• Program Schedule: Monday from 6:30–7:30 PM 

  • PLEASE NOTE: Monday sessions that are impacted holidays will be held on Tuesday at the same time.​

• Ages: 18+

  • ​GENERAL MEMBERSHIP OPT-IN: Dragon Boat athletes can opt into our General Membership program for $150 (a 55% discount). The Dragon Boat Recreation & Fitness Program offers a fun, social, and accessible way to get active on the water while learning the fundamentals of dragon boat paddling. This program is ideal for beginner to intermediate paddlers looking to build fitness, confidence, and basic stroke technique in a welcoming team environment.

Sessions focus on learning the essential elements of the dragon boat stroke while incorporating engaging workouts that promote cardiovascular fitness and overall strength.

 

Above all, this program is about enjoying time on the water, staying active, and paddling together on the beautiful Mississippi River in a supportive and social setting.

The Carleton Place Canoe Club offers dragon boat rentals for teams, organizations, and community groups looking to train, prepare for festivals, or enjoy time on the water together.

 

The CPCC currently has multiple dragon boats available for rent, including two brand-new dragon boats, fully equipped and ready to go.

Dragon boat rentals are available on an hourly basis and include the use of CPCC dragon boats and paddles. Teams wishing to rent equipment must register online and contact info@cpcanoeclub.com to confirm availability and scheduling.

For safety and operational requirements, teams are expected to provide their own qualified steersperson (cox) for each rental session. If a steersperson is not available, a cox may be available for hire through CPCC - please reach out to info@cpcanoeclub.com for availability, rates, and additional details.

Dragon boat rentals are a great option for festival preparation, corporate or community teams, and groups looking to paddle on the beautiful Mississippi River with high-quality equipment in a supportive club environment.
