About the CPCC
The Carleton Place Canoe Club is a non-profit organization that offers canoeing ethusiasts in the Ottawa Valley, a variety of opportunities. The majority of club activities revolve around the sport of Flatwater-Sprint Canoe/Kayak racing, but an increasing level revolves around the sport of Dragon Boat Racing. The Carleton Place Canoe Club is the oldest existing sprint racing club in Canada and has, over the years, continued to be at the forefront of the continued development of this sport within Canada.
The club is a member of the Eastern Ontario Division (EOD) of the Canadian Canoe Association. The other clubs included in the EOD are: the RIDEAU Canoe Club (Ottawa), NORTH BAY Canoe Club, SYDENHAM LAKE Canoe Club, the OTTAWA RIVER Canoe Club and the GANANOQUE Canoe Club . We are also part of Canoe Ontario's OCSRA (Ontario Canoe Sprint Racing Affiliation).
Each of the clubs within the EOD, hosts a regatta each summer, culminating in the EOD championships. The EOD championships serves as a qualifier for further (higher level) Championship regattas; the Ontario Championships, Cloverleaf Championships and the National Championships (CCA's) .
What we offer:
Though the club concentrates on programs related to the youth of this community and surrounding area, we also offer additional programs for adults, both competition and leisure based. Programs for youth generally occur during the daytime, while adult programs are typically in the evenings.
Ever growing in popularity is the sport of Dragon Boat racing and the Carleton Place Canoe Club is an active participant in this venture as well. The club owns its own Dragon Boat and offers a a comprehensive Dragon Boat program to adults, culminating with the participation in the Carleton Place Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the "Fall 400". The event takes place on the Second Saturday in September.
