Dear Parents/Paddlers:

This is a very busy time for the club and we wanted to first congratulate everyone who competed at this past weekend’s Eastern Ontario Divisions Bantam/Peewee Championships and Midget and UP Qualifier in Ottawa.  The club won the Overall Bantam Burgee and Peewee Women’s Burgee.  Thank you to all the staff, helpers and parents who made the weekend such a success. 

 

Please review the information below regarding the upcoming events:

CPCC Pep Rally/Trillium Grant Announcement – Monday, August 9, 6:00pm

This year’s Pep Rallies theme is ‘Club Spirit’.  So come down and show your pride for CPCC.  Awards will be given out to the best example of ‘Club Spirit’.  There will also be a BBQ and fun relay race for all in attendance.  In addition, the pep rally will co-inside with our Trillium grant announcement.  The club will be receiving $74,900 in funding from the Trillium Foundation to purchase new boats and equipment.  We hope that all members will be in attendance for the Trillium grant presentation.

Ontario Summer Games – Wednesday/Thursday, August 11/12, Sudbury

Congratulations to the following members who were named to the OSG Team:  Alastair Spriggs, Eric Winch, Colin Johnson, Brody Rawding, James Hicks, Spencer McOrmond, Luke Potvin, Nick Rintoul and Monica Black.  The selected members will travel with Ryan to Sudbury after Wednesday morning’s practice.  Accommodation is provided on Wednesday night at the Holiday Inn, 1696 Regent St., Sudbury.  Dinner on Wednesday and breakfast/lunch on Thursday will also be provided.  Fees for the event are $70 per participant.

Participants will travel to North Bay on Thursday after the competition and be billeted with North Bay paddlers on Thursday night.  We will be training with the NBCC on Friday, then returning to Sudbury on Friday night after dinner.  Parents are expected to make accommodation arrangements for them on Friday night.

Ontario Cup #3 – Saturday, August 14, Sudbury

All Junior High Performance and midget aged (ages 15-16) High Performance members will be taking part in the Ontario Cup #3 (Ontario Championships) in Sudbury.  Entries will are posted at the club.  Fees for the event are $10 per participant.

Trillium Championships – Sunday, August 15, Sudbury

Congratulations to all Competitive Program members who qualified for the Trillium Championships.  If you are unsure which boats your son/daughter qualified in please contact their coach.  A complete list of qualified crews is posted on the EOD website www.ckceod.com.  The race card is also posted on the EOD website, the first race of the day is at 8:00 am.  All participants are asked to be at the race course at 7:15 am to help unload the trailer.  Fees for the event where included in your club registration fee.

Additional Week for Competitive/Non-Competitive Program – Tuesday, August 17 – Friday, August 20

The Canoe Club will be adding an additional week for the Competitive/Non-Competitive Program from Tuesday, August 17 to Friday, August 20 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm only

In addition, all Competitive Program members are invited to take part in a fun regatta in Gananoque on August 26.   Information on the GCC Regatta will be given out next week.

 

Atom/River Rec/Canoe Kids Program Regatta – Wednesday, August 18, Carleton Place

Competitive Program members ages 6-10 (atom), Non-Competitive, River Rec and Canoe Kids participants are invited to take part in our Atom/Regatta Ready Invitational Regatta at the club on Wednesday, August 18 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Members will be teamed up with participants from other clubs in a fun regatta to introduce them to racing, as well as many dry-land games.  Fees for the event are $10 per participant, which includes BBQ lunch and t-shirt.

National Championships – August 25 – 28, Regina

Congratulations to all members in the Junior High Performance and High Performance Program who qualified for the National Championships.  If you are unsure what events your son/daughter has qualified for please contact Ryan Blair coach@cpcanoeclub.com.  A list of crews will also be posted on the club board by Saturday.  There will be a final Nationals information session at the club on Monday, August 9, 7:00 pm (after the Pep Rally).  For all travel and accommodation information in Regina please contact Rebecca Sosna at becca358@live.comor (613) 253-0066 before Monday night’s meeting. 

All fees for the Ontario Summer Games, Ontario Cup #3, Trillium Championships and CPCC Atom/Regatta Ready Invitational Regatta will be collected at Monday’s Pep Rally.

CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY (We're still "business as usual")

We are excited to announce that the construction is now underway to install a new elevator at the club.  Thanks in part to money from the Town and federal/provincial grant money.  This project and many others will give the club much needed facelift over the coming months.  As well, we are looking for willing and able volunteers to assist with minor repairs and painting.  If you are able to help in any fashion, please contact volunteer@cpcanoeclub.com

The Carleton Place Canoe Club is a not-for-profit organization administered by a volunteer board of local individuals.  Any donation of time, effort or expertise would be appreciated and will go a long way to help support local athletes in the communtiy.



 NEW EOD WEBSITE

The Eastern Ontario Division (EOD) has lunched a new website www.ckceod.com. The website will be very useful for all members, as it provides important information on events and activities within the division, regatta schedules and race cards, directions to regatta sites, coaches resources and much more.

DRAGON BOAT RENTAL AVAILABLE

The cost to rent the Canoe Club Dragon Boat will be as follows:

  • 1-10 practices = $80
  • 11+ practices = $70
  • Coached practice (cox) = $30
  • Motor boat/no coaching = $25 ($20 to boat driver, $5 in gas)
  • Motor boat & Coach = $40 ($30 to coach, $10 in gas)

The Carleton Place Canoe Club

Located on the shores of the Mississippi River in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, the CPCC sits approximately 40 minutes from downtown Ottawa, Ontario (Canada). The club has been in existence since 1893 and has provided the youth and general public of the area a great source of recreation and/or competitive racing for over a century.

The operations of the club centre around the sport of Flatwater, Sprint Canoe Racing, yet the club and the facility that it is housed in, offers a wide range of sporting and/or recreational activities. Programs operated by the club itself include racing and recreational canoe instruction, as well as adult programs which include Dragon Boat racing. In addition, the facility is home to such activities as Tai Kwon Do instruction, ballroom dancing, seniors' fitness programs and yoga classes.

About the CPCC

The Carleton Place Canoe Club is a non-profit organization that offers canoeing ethusiasts in the Ottawa Valley, a variety of opportunities. The majority of club activities revolve around the sport of Flatwater-Sprint Canoe/Kayak racing, but an increasing level revolves around the sport of Dragon Boat Racing. The Carleton Place Canoe Club is the oldest existing sprint racing club in Canada and has, over the years, continued to be at the forefront of the continued development of this sport within Canada.

The club is a member of the Eastern Ontario Division (EOD) of the Canadian Canoe Association. The other clubs included in the EOD are: the RIDEAU Canoe Club (Ottawa), NORTH BAY Canoe Club, SYDENHAM LAKE Canoe Club, the OTTAWA RIVER Canoe Club and the GANANOQUE Canoe Club . We are also part of Canoe Ontario's OCSRA (Ontario Canoe Sprint Racing Affiliation).

Each of the clubs within the EOD, hosts a regatta each summer, culminating in the EOD championships. The EOD championships serves as a qualifier for further (higher level) Championship regattas; the Ontario Championships, Cloverleaf Championships and the National Championships (CCA's) .

What we offer:

Though the club concentrates on programs related to the youth of this community and surrounding area, we also offer additional programs for adults, both competition and leisure based. Programs for youth generally occur during the daytime, while adult programs are typically in the evenings.

Ever growing in popularity is the sport of Dragon Boat racing and the Carleton Place Canoe Club is an active participant in this venture as well. The club owns its own Dragon Boat and offers a a comprehensive Dragon Boat program to adults, culminating with the participation in the Carleton Place Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the "Fall 400". The event takes place on the Second Saturday in September.
