Friends of the CPCC

Entrenched in the local community, the Carleton Place Canoe Club remains a goodwill ambassador for the town of Carleton Place itself. The club is extremely appreciative of the continued support it receives from the Town, as well as the local local business community, many of whom continue to be active sponsors to the club. Every summer, the club hosts (at minimum) one to two of its own regattas and each fall, the facility and race course are utilized by the "The Fall 400" Dragon Boat Festival (run separately from the club). These events bring thousands of visitors to the community each and every year.

In addition to the local business community, over the past couple of years, a long and overdue effort was made to establish an active Alumni Association. An innaugural dinner was held in the fall of 2004 and was a great success, raising close to $5000 to help towards paddling programs at the club. A second dinner was in June of 2006. We are actively looking for someone to take on an alumni organizer role. Not only have these events proven to be worthy fundraising events for the club, they are quite simply, a great way to gather together old freinds and spin a yarn or two.

Aside from the alumni, and as mentioned above, the club touches the lives of a great number of individuals each and every year. Local Service clubs have also been a great supporter of the club, with generous donations in recent years from both the Civitan and Rotary clubs which helped greatly with equipment purchases.
 

The Maurice and Eileen Pommerville Memorial Fund

A generous donation has been made by one of the club's former paddlers, Dr. Peter Pommerville, to establish a trust fund in honour of his parents, Maurice and Eileen, who were both dedicated members of the CPCC executive during the late 1960's and early 70's. A yearly donation will be made to the fund by Dr. Pommerville, with a percentage of the fund being made available for dispersal for necessary equipment and/or club improvements. The Carleton Place Canoe Club thanks Dr. Pommerville for his enthusiasm and generosity.

Please note that this will be an open fund, meaning that anyone can make donations to it.
