CARLETON PLACE CANOE CLUB
Every summer, the club hosts (at minimum) one to two of its own regattas. These events bring thousands of visitors to the community each and every year. The local business community has the opportunity to be showcased at these events (as well as on our website and in communications) in return for provided much needed support and donations.
This year, 2018, is the 125th anniversary of Canada's oldest, continually run Canoe Club!
We are a non-profit organization which runs flatwater canoe/kayak programs for athletes of all ages and abilities. Programs are designed to promote a positive self-image, an appreciation of the sport and the spirit of co-operation and fair play. Our club continues to be at the forefront of the sport within Canada and has produced many Provincial, National and International competitors and champions (including 5 Olympians) since 1893! We think this is something to be very proud of and we hope you share in this pride too.
Canoeing and kayaking has always been a part of Canada's heritage, and one uniquely Canadian component of this is the War Canoe Race (15 person canoe). We are the only country in the world which competes in this type of event. The CPCC has a very respectable showing in war canoe races, including placing top 10 in the Junior final at the 2017 National Championships.
Most of the athletes in this event were from younger training groups, which means the next few years could bring about amazing things for our War Canoe program. Unfortunately, our existing war canoe is very old, damaged beyond repair and is a detriment to our potential at future regattas. Due to it's age, we were at a considerable disadvantage at Nationals. Boat design and materials have changed significantly in the last decades, and a new boat would mean great things for our club’s program.
To celebrate this exceptional anniversary, CPCC will be implementing a special 125th anniversary donation program where both individuals and corporate donors can be part of the club’s history, and help us purchase this much needed war canoe. The cost of the war canoe is $30,000. We are very excited about a new 125th Anniversary CPCC Donor Wall will be prominently displayed to the public, not to mention many other forms of recognition.
We have several ways that you can help support the Carleton Place Canoe Club celebrate their 125th anniversary and their title of the LONGEST running Canoe Club in Canada: $25 Donation; Race Sponsor = your name listed in our program & announced as a race sponsor on the day of the regatta (visit the following link to participate - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/409054daead29a1f49-cpccs)
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OUR EXISTING SPONSORS!!
The Club is extremely appreciative of the continued support it receives from the Town, as well as the local business community and individual member families, many of whom continue to be active sponsors. Donations and sponsorship enables us to acquire new boats and equipment, which increases our young athlete’s performance and results. The ability to obtain new canoes and kayaks, and other equipment has direct result on our individual and overall performance and standings.
